The American Farrier’s Association plays an active role in promoting the welfare of both the farrier and the horse in America and beyond. We believe that AFA programs—such as certification, equine research, and continuing education events—are vital to building a strong community of professional farriers who strive to do their best for the horses in their care. However, it is vital that we continue to raise funds to support the mission and programs of the AFA well past any of our lifetimes.
Because of that, we are excited to introduce you to the first-ever American Farrier’s Association Foundation Forge-a-Thon.
The goal of this fundraising event is to raise funds to support the programs and future of the American Farrier’s Association by having participants forge shoes and solicit donations from friends and family.
This is a thirty-day event in which participants are challenged to build thirty shoes. We believe this is a great opportunity for farriers to improve their skills by working toward a defined goal, as well as network with their fellow farriers who are participating.
The Foundation Forge-a-Thon officially begins on Monday, February 16 and runs through March 16, leading right up to the American Farrier’s Association 54th Annual Convention in Little Rock, AR! During these 30 days, we suggest a minimum goal of building 30 shoes, though participants are welcome to set more ambitious goals.
Once you’ve set your goal, share it with friends, family, and clients. Let them know why AFA programs are important to you and invite them to support your efforts. You may print pledge forms for mail-in donations or share the online donation link for easy giving. Be sure donors include your name under “Participant,” so you receive credit for their contribution. And along the way, be sure to share your journey on social media to keep your supporters engaged!
At the conclusion of the Forge-A-Thon, all donations will be officially tallied. The highest fundraising participants in both the Open and Student divisions will be announced at the AFA Convention!
